2020 MLB Season: Highlighting Featured Tar Heels on Opening Day
Jacob Stallings
Jacob Stallings one of the most underrated Tar Heels currently playing in the MLB had some electrifying moments during his tenure with Carolina from 2009-11.
During Stallings time he was one of the best catchers in the Atlantic Coast Conference and could be counted on to make contact with the ball. Stallings was a solid hitter in his time with the Tar Heels. He started and played all 67 games where he was a force catching runners stealing, ranking 3rd in the country with 32.
Stallings, who ended up being drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates which his current team, has transitioned well in the pros getting called up in 2016 and seeing playtime go up year by year. He’s projected to have 219 at-bats in the 60 games played for the Pirates this year which is up from the 191 at-bats last season in 71 games played.
The Pirates are a rebuilding team that is trying to load up on prospects, but with a 60-game schedule anything can happen. Pittsburgh opens up on the road against division rival St. Louis on Friday.
