2020 MLB Season: Highlighting Featured Tar Heels on Opening Day

Last, but not least the oldest Tar Heel on this list catcher for the New York Yankees Chris Iannetta who will be entering his 15th season at the age of 37.

Iannetta’s Carolina career lasted two seasons from 2002-03 where he was known for getting batters to home plate with 55 RBI in his final year. Along with his 55 RBI he also had 13 doubles, and 8 home runs while hitting an average of .319.

His freshman year just as impressive with .333 average and named second-team Freshman All-American. Iannetta who has spent most of his career Colorado has had 141 home runs, 820 hits, 502 RBI, and 449 runs with 3563 at bats for an average of .230.

Iannaetta made the Opening Day roster and will be a backup to Gary Sanchez to start the season for New York. The Yankees are in prime position to win the World Series this year and could mean A Tar Heel legend could be rocking some new hardware!

New York helped open up the new season playing in the first game of the year against the defending World Series champion Washington Nationals.
