4-star football recruit set to walk on for Roy Williams, UNC basketball program

Keshawn Silver is a 4-star defensive end that committed to the North Carolina football program in early March, but the gridiron isn’t the only place fans will see him in the fall of 2021. The two-sport athlete has made arrangements with both Mack Brown and Roy Williams to walk on for the basketball program, too.

"“We had a talk a while ago and he said he’s going to give me a chance,” Silver told Tar Heel Illustrated of his conversation with Williams. “So, I’m going to play. Coach Williams is a great dude. We talk every now and then.”"

In addition to being one of the nation’s top football recruits in the class of 2021 — ranked No. 63 overall and third in the state of North Carolina — Silver is a skilled basketball player. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound Silver averaged just under 11 points and 8.3 rebounds per game as a junior at Rocky Mount High School last season.

Silver spoke to his defensive prowess and rebounding ability, as well as his willingness to do whatever is asked of him on the basketball court. Given the kind of size he possesses, he should be able to play up a position or two, and create matchup problems for smaller guards and forwards. And if he’s able to find any kind of consistency with his offensive game, he could be a valuable asset off the bench for Williams and company.
