Luke Maye has agreed to a deal with a professional basketball team in Italy according to a report on Saturday

Former UNC Basketball standout Luke Maye could be close to finding his new home in professional basketball and it appears to be overseas.

After going undrafted following a four-year career with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Maye was in training camp with the Milwaukee Bucks. But now it appears as if he will have a new season when basketball resumes.

According Sportando, Maye will soon be taking his talents overseas to Italy. The outlet reported earlier in the week that Italian team Aquila Basket Trento has been in talks with the forward about joining the roster. A day later, it appears as if that is the case as Maye has agreed to join Aquila Basket Trento.

EuroBasket reported the news on Saturday, revealing that the 23-year-old Maye has officially signed a deal with Trento.

The 6-foot-8 Maye played his first professional year of basketball with the Wisconsin Herd of the G-League, averaging 10,.7 points and 7.3 rebounds as a rookie. But with the status of the G-League still pending due to COVID-19, Maye is going overseas.

Trento wasn’t the only team pursuing Maye, either. He reportedly had received some interest from a few NBA teams including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons per a report.

In four seasons at North Carolina, Maye averaged 9.9 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. He didn’t receive a lot of minutes in his first two seasons with the Tar Heels but broke out in his junior and senior seasons.

Maye was named to the All-ACC team twice, was a two-time All-ACC Tournament selection and was named the conference’s most improved player in 2018.
