UNC Basketball: Tar Heels target talks Roy Williams
By Zack Pearson
A UNC Basketball recruiting target in the 2021 class talks about the Tar Heels as well as head coach Roy Williams on Friday
One of the top targets on UNC Basketball’s 2021 recruiting class was in action over the weekend in a rare high school basketball tournament. I say rare because right now there are no live evaluation periods going on due to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting a wrench in recruiting for all programs.
But over the past few days, a few prospects participated in the Big Shots Myrtle Beach Tournament including a top UNC target.
Four-star shooting guard D’Marco Dunn took the court for Garner Road as his team went 3-1 during the first four games. Dunn scored 17 points twice and had double-digit point totals in three of the four games.
Following Friday’s session, Dunn caught up with Tar Heel Illustrated who was on-hand for the tournament to talk about his recruitment. The recruit discussed the Tar Heels and head coach Roy Williams:
"“It’s good. Coach [Roy] Williams and coach [Steve] Robinson have called me at least once a week,” Dunn said. “We keep in touch. We have a good relationship and stuff like that. They said they love my game. It’s a blessing to hear from them.”"
Dunn went on to say that what UNC loves most about his game is his shooting. That shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone as he’s one of the top shooters in this 2021 recruiting class.
You can watch the full interview with Dunn via THI here.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pound Dunn is ranked as the No. 70 overall recruit, No. 14 shooting guard and No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina per 247 Sports Composite rankings. He has a total of 18 offers so far in his recruitment but offers from UNC and Arizona have really amped up his recruitment as of late.
