2021 Mock Class

Every now and then I like to do a mock class for the Tar Heels based on the latest news and intel out there. The last one I did was a few months ago and I did have Styles mocked to the class.

But since then, a lot has changed including the COVID-19 pandemic which has had a big impact on recruiting for all programs. So here’s my updated mock class with the addition of two more recruits for now which could change as time goes on.

5-star combo guard Hunter Sallis (No. 19)

When it’s done, I expect Sallis to pick the Tar Heels and leave the Midwest for Chapel Hill. Sallis will likely make his decision sometime this Fall or Winter and I’ll mock him to the Tar Heels in this edition. UNC’s toughest competition for Sallis will be either Kansas or Gonzaga, two tough programs to beat out.

4-star shooting guard D’Marco Dunn (No. 70)

The UNC offer reportedly amped up the recruitment and then getting one from Arizona also made things interesting. I mentioned it before but I think this recruitment really comes down to the Wildcats and Tar Heels. I do get the feeling that UNC is in the lead for Dunn as his stock continues to rise and I’ll mock him in the class for now. These two programs have had some good recruiting battles over the past few years with Arizona winning Josh Green and Zeke Nanji, while UNC landed Kerwin Walton this year.

4-star small forward Dontrez Styles (No. 53)

The first commit to UNC’s 2021 class is a solid one at the power forward position. Styles is ranked No. 53 overall and the No. 11 player at his position for the 2021 class.
