UNC Football: Tar Heels pause workouts after positive tests
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Football program has halted workouts after a cluster of positive tests were reported on Wednesday afternoon by the University
It was just a week ago that there was a report out stating the University of North Carolina has yet to see any positive tests on campus yet. But that changed on Wednesday afternoon.
The University sent out a press release on Wednesday afternoon revealing that of the 429 tests for student-athletes, staff members and coaches, initiated by Campus Health and UNC Hospitals, that 37 of them have returned as positive.
The positive tests have forced the UNC Football program to pause their voluntary workout programs right away.
The news comes just over a month after the program began to welcome back student-athletes, staff and coaches in June. They did so in waves with the basketball teams returning this past weekend as well.
Student-athletes who do test positive must quarantine for 14 days at a campus residence hall or their permanent residence. Coaches and staff members will be forced to quarantine for 14 days at their homes.
This is significant news, especially with the fate of a 2020 college football season still in the air around the country. On Wednesday, the Ivy League cancelled Fall sports and stated that basketball will not start until January 1st at the earliest. Other Universities across the country have also reported positive tests with athletes on campus.
We will continue to monitor the situation and keep you updated.
