5-star combo guard and UNC basketball target talks about his high-profile recruitment, the Tar Heels and more

Last week, Roy Williams and the North Carolina basketball program offered a scholarship to 5-star class of 2022 combo guard Skyy Clark. On Monday of this week, Clark opened up to 247Sports about his recruitment, the current contenders and the Tar Heels specifically.

"“It was a huge week,” Clark told 247Sports’ Travis Branham. “It was more than a blessing. First, I got the North Carolina offer, then I got the Kentucky offer as well and then this trainer, Mark Edwards, came down from Atlanta and I worked out with him which was also a huge honor because he’s an amazing trainer.”"

It was last Tuesday night that Clark got the call from Williams offering him an opportunity to play for the Tar Heels just over two years from now. Clark became just the third 2022 prospect to receive a North Carolina offer, joining Concord’s Jaden Bradley and Caleb Houstan of Montverde Academy.

"“It was huge,” Clark said. “Coach Roy said I was the first kid he ever recruited without seeing in person but only on film. He basically offered me based off of my character and personality and what I have been doing off the court and I didn’t even know what to say to that. That was a huge thing for me.”"

Including his recent offer from the Tar Heels, Clark has nearly two-dozen schools involved at this point. That number will only continue to grow, but already includes the likes of Arizona, Auburn, Kansas, Kentucky, Florida State, Indiana, Memphis, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas Tech and UCLA. Clark got calls from a number of those programs and many others on June 15, the first day that college coaches were permitted to contact 2022 prospects. Duke and Villanova are among the programs that have been in contact with Clark, but are yet to extend an offer.

Clark is a skilled ball handler that can push the ball up the court, and lead his team on the fast break. Along with being a terrific shooter that has consistent range beyond the three-point line, Clark is good at setting up his teammates for open buckets. He’s a good penetrator, and isn’t afraid to finish through contact in traffic. He’s got tremendous basketball I.Q., above average athletic ability, and excellent court vision. He’s got the size and tenacity to be a solid defender, too, and should be one of the class’s most versatile players by the time he steps foot on campus in the fall of 2022.

The 6-foot-2, 197-pound Clark is a junior at Brentwood Academy, where he transferred to from California’s Heritage Christian after the 2019-20 season. He averaged 25.5 points and 4.2 assists as a sophomore, and spent time playing AAU ball with LeBron James’ son, Bronny. He’s currently ranked 18th in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s No. 1 among combo guards in the 2022 class, and second in the state of Tennessee.
