The North Carolina Tar Heels football program has offered a defensive back in the 2024 recruiting class early on in the cycle.

While we are certainly in weird times with the COVID-19 pandemic creating a dead period in recruiting for college football, the staff at North Carolina have continued to push and make some news in recruiting.

North Carolina is welcoming in a top 20 class for 2020 and is currently No. 4 in the nation for the 2021 class. But they haven’t stopped recruiting for the future either and are starting to make their big boards for the 2022-2024 classes.

The latest offer from the program goes to a defensive back in the 2024 recruiting class who just finished up the eighth grade. But he’s already receiving some attention from big programs across the country.

Defensive back Desmond Ricks announced via Twitter that he has received an offer from North Carolina on Sunday. Take a look at what he tweeted:

The Virginia product earned his offer on Sunday and tagged North Carolina defensive backs coach Dre Bly, who is leading the recruitment.

As a 2024 prospect, Ricks hasn’t received many offers so far. He has just three now: North Carolina, Tennessee and Southern Miss. More will come over time but it’s nice to see UNC getting into the door early with this prospect.

Following his tweet, current UNC defensive back Cam’Ron Kelly showed his support for the fellow Virginia prospect as he revealed just how close the two are. With a connection to UNC and an early offer, this could bode well for the Tar Heels. But of course, there is a long way to go in this recruitment.
