The UNC Basketball program made the top seven cut for this top five-star recruit in the 2021 recruiting cycle over the weekend

With the focus shifting to the 2021 recruiting class for college programs, one of the most prized recruits is five-star center Chet Holmgren.

The 7-foot center is one of the more rare prospects the recruiting world has seen over the years and the race for him is starting to heat up. Holmgren has a total of 29 offers in his recruitment but as of late, it’s been a little silent on who may lead to eventually land him.

That changed on Friday as Holmgren provided a big update to where he stands with those offers and what programs he’s now focusing on. Holmgren posted his Top 7 schools on Twitter, cutting that list down to finalists and the North Carolina Tar Heels have made the cut:

Joining the Tar Heels on Holmgren’s list are: Memphis, Georgetown, Michigan, Gonzaga, Ohio State and in-state Minnesota. That’s an interesting list for Holmgren and really features just one true Blue Blood program in North Carolina.

Holmgren is currently ranked as the No. 3 overall prospect in the 247 Sports Composite rankings, which takes the rankings from all major recruiting sites and uses the average. But is quickly climbing and could soon be the No. 1 player.

While we are in a recruiting dead period, Holmgren hasn’t been able to get on any campuses and it’s been tough to identify a leader right now. Our best bet is probably Gonzaga with the option of going pro and it’s tough to say where UNC stands.

As a 7-foot prospect, Holmgren not only dominates the post with his height but what makes him so unique is his overall game and ability to score from all over the court. Holmgren has a very good jumper and can also beat you from the wing.

He’s a prized recruit that is going to make one program or a G-League team very happy.
