A top UNC Basketball commit is set to make a update to his recruitment by trimming his list later on this week according to a report

With the 2020 recruiting cycle over with, the focus has shifted to 2021 where the UNC Basketball program is hoping to bring in another talented class.

As it stands here in June, North Carolina has one commitment in the class as four-star power forward Dontrez Styles committed in April. Since then, things have been a bit quiet on the recruiting front mainly because of the dead period imposed by the NCAA.

There’s been some recruiting news but not nearly as much as years past, especially with no live evaluation periods this Summer. But even with that, UNC has identified their top targets with seven scholarships out to recruits.

Among them is five-star center Chet Holmgren who is on his way to becoming the No. 1 player in this 2021 class. The 7-footer is a rare talent that will be a prized recruit for one program or a potential G-League option right away. Either way, one team is getting a great talent.

Holmgren’s recruitment has been a bit quiet in this dead period but he’s ready to provide an update soon. According to Tipton Edits, Holmgren will cut his list down to seven finalists later this week:

The five-star recruit has a total of 28 offers in his recruitment including one from the Tar Heels so far. But with a cut coming soon, the race will be down to just seven teams.

It’s unclear where UNC stands right now with Holmgren as they haven’t been able to visit him or get him on campus. That could be a disadvantage for the program in their pursuit of the Minnesota native.
