UNC Football: Tar Heels five-star target sets new commitment date
By Zack Pearson
A top UNC Football recruiting target has made a major update to his recruitment, pushing up his commitment date to next week
The North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program will soon find out their fate for a top recruiting target still left on their board.
With 16 players already committed to the 2021 recruiting class, Mack Brown and his staff are off to a hot start in this cycle. The Tar Heels have landed some of the top talent in the state of North Carolina for their class but they still have one big target remaining.
Five-star defensive back Tony Grimes is one of the top players uncommitted in the 2021 recruiting class but that will change very soon. The defensive back was set to announce his decision date in December of 2020 but has now made a key update and will commit early.
Grimes announced via Twitter that he is moving up his announcement date to June 30th and will pick between North Carolina, Georgia, Texas A&M and Ohio State:
As you see in the tweet above, that’s some tough competition for the Tar Heels going up against two SEC schools and the best team in the Big Ten.
However, the switch of the commitment date may work in UNC’s favor. It’s been reported that the Tar Heels have picked up a lot of momentum over the past few months and with Grimes switching his commitment, that’s a damn good sign. UNC does have 85 percent of the Crystal Ball predictions on 247 Sports including the latest by lead expert Steve Wiltfong.
Grimes is ranked as the No. 7 overall player by 247 Sports and the top player at defensive back and in the state of Virginia. Landing him would give UNC their first five-star recruit in this 2021 class.
