The UNC Football program begins the process of returning to campus beginning last week. A look at that process and more.

The 2020 college football season is still a few months away but these next few weeks will be big in terms of what’s going to happen before kickoff.

Players across the country are starting to return to their universities for the Summer and included are the North Carolina Tar Heels. The university laid out a welcome back plan last month including how the upcoming Fall semester will go plus a plan for athletes to return to campus in waves.

The first wave of players and staff to arrive on campus happened on Friday as they officially returned for the first time this Summer. It’s the first time they have been back on campus and at Kenan football facilities since March 6th, the day Spring Break started.

With this first wave, it was primarily made up of veterans and starters for the Tar Heels as remaining scholarship veterans & contributors will be next to arrive on campus June 19th.

Specialists and freshmen will be there on June 26th, while the remaining freshmen and walk-ons will join them on June 29th. The plan is to have the entire team on campus by July 1 if everything goes as planned.

As players returned, they were also tested for COVID-19 as you can see in the video above showing Sam Howell, Mack Brown, Tomon Fox, Patrice Rene, Javonte Williams and Myles Wolfolk being tested.

It’s been so far, so good for the team in the return on campus and with a lot of hype for this program going into 2020, the hope is that it continues that way and we actually have a season this year.
