UNC football program sitting in prime position for a commitment from 4-star defensive lineman Jahvaree Ritzie

The North Carolina Tar Heels are just 24 hours away from finding out if 4-star defensive lineman Jahvaree Ritzie will be joining the program in the summer of 2021. The 6-foot-5, 275-pound senior from Glenn High School in Kernersville, North Carolina will be announcing his college destination on Friday night when he chooses from a list of finalists that includes Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee.

All seven predictions in Ritzie’s 247Sports Crystal Ball are in favor of the Tar Heels, including Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, and multiple South Carolina insiders. The aggregate confidence level of all submitted picks is an “8”, which, combined with the fact that all seven predictions are for the same team, is very compelling.

An extremely athletic, physical defensive end, Ritzie is good at getting to the quarterback, and stopping the run. He can line up on the edge, or play inside and use his quickness to get an advantage. He ran a 5.13 40-yard dash last year, and measured a 31.5-inch vertical jump. He’s a player with the size and athleticism to come in and make a difference from year one at the college level.

Ritzie is ranked 142nd in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite for 2021. He’s No. 12 among players at his position, and seventh in the state of North Carolina. The Top247 has Ritzie ranked substantially higher at No. 63 overall, as well as fifth among defensive ends and fourth in his home state.

With a commitment from Ritzie, the Tar Heels would hold 16 pledges from 2021 prospects, 14 of which would rank within the top 40 recruits in the state of North Carolina.
