The UNC Basketball program is officially out of the running for this four-star combo guard in the 2021 recruiting class

Roy Williams and his staff have turned in a Top 3 2020 recruiting class in what is a very important time for the program.

After a disappointing 2019-20 campaign in which the Tar Heels finished 14-19, Williams is hoping to reload with that 2020 class. Now with it completed, the focus has shifted to 2021 where UNC has one player committed and about seven offers out to prospects.

However, one prospect will not be on their radar anymore.

Class of 2021 four-star combo guard Jalen Warley released his list of 10 finalists for his recruitment and despite four Atlantic Coast Conference teams appearing on it, UNC did not make the cut. Warley is down to Louisville, Florida State, Miami, Virginia, Michigan, Oregon State, Ohio State, Memphis, LSU and Maryland:

Now, the Tar Heels weren’t one of the 13 teams that offered the Top 25 prospect out of Pennsylvania but there was some small interest at least. Per Endless Motor, the Tar Heels were one of the big programs showing interest in Warley as early as April.

The article reported that UNC, Kentucky and Villanova were teams showing interest in the recruit, however there was not an offer.

UNC is turning in a 2020 class that has three guards committed plus Anthony Harris is returning for another season in Chapel Hill. It’s very possible that Williams looked at his depth chart plus offers to other guards in 2021 and felt comfortable enough with that. The Tar Heels are still in the running for point guard Kennedy Chandler, shooting guards Trevor Keels and D’Marco Dunn as well as combo guard Hunter Sallis.

Next. Roy Williams provides update on Anthony Harris. dark
