The UNC Basketball program received some good news as head coach Roy Williams updated the status of guard Anthony Harris

A big question mark for the North Carolina Tar Heels in the 2020-21 season is the depth on the perimeter specifically at the guard position.

Cole Anthony left after one season for the NBA and Jeremiah Francis surprisingly transferred out after his lone season. Add in the loss of Brandon Robinson and with the exception of Rechon Leaky Black and Anthony Harris, UNC’s backcourt will have a different look next season.

Black struggled in his second year with the Tar Heels but showed some signs of promise and the hope is that he can take the next step. But for Harris, he barely played last season as he suffered a torn ACL in late December. Harris missed the rest of the year and underwent surgery to repair that tear.

With Harris still recovering, there has been some questions of when he would be ready to return for the Tar Heels. Well, on Monday head coach Roy Williams provided a big update to Harris’ injury situation and his status for the upcoming season. And it’s good news for the Tar Heels.

CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported on Monday that Harris is expected to be ready for the start of the season, a big boost for the Tar Heels:

Harris being ready to go is significant because it gives the Tar Heels some more depth at guard next year. Williams and his staff will welcome in a Top 3 recruiting class that includes guards Caleb Love, R.J. Davis, and Kerwin Walton as well as wing Donovan “Puff” Johnson.

But getting a player that has had a little familiarity in the offense is a good thing. Harris likely won’t start and probably will be eased into a role early on but the Tar Heels at least return a player that showed signs of being a solid player.
