Michael Jordan and his company, Jordan Brand, announced a new $100M donation to help ensure racial equality and social justice

In these unsettling times that this country is going through, many are stepping up to make their voice heard on their respected platforms. That includes former North Carolina, Chicago Bulls and NBA legend Michael Jordan.

Earlier in the week Jordan released a statement on the tragic death of George Floyd and now he’s ready to help make a change.

Jordan and his Nike umbrella brand, Jordan Brand, have announced they are donating $100M over 10-years to organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education.  The donation will be a part of the companies “Wings Program” which focuses on providing inspiration and access to help youth create a better future. The program has been a staple in youth communities all over the country.

Here is what Craig Williams, president of Jordan Brand said in a statement about the new donation:

"“Through our Jordan Wings Program, we have been focused on providing access to education, mentorship and opportunity for Black youth facing the obstacles of systemic racism. But we know we can do more. In addition to the investment from NIKE Inc., we are announcing a joint commitment from Michael Jordan and Jordan Brand to donate $100 million over the next 10 years. We must join forces with the community, government and civic leaders to create a lasting impact together,” said Craig Williams, President of Jordan Brand. “There is still more work for us to do to drive real impact for the Black Community. We embrace the responsibility.”"

The programs weren’t listed specifically but Jordan Brand has worked with several different programs in communities for years now. Among the donations, the Wings program awards scholarships yearly to students.

Jordan is the latest celebrity to donate for the fight for racial equality, joining Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Angelina Jolie, The Weeknd and Chrissy Teigen. The donation was announced on Friday afternoon as part of a large statement which can be read here.
