The UNC Football program finds themselves in the final four for a four-star defensive end in the 2021 recruiting class

Despite it being a recruiting “dead” period right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program has been able to add to their 2021 recruiting class.

Mack Brown and his staff are off to a hot start, with the No. 5 recruiting class in 2021 per 247 Sports. UNC has landed 15 commitments in the class and is still building, hoping for a Top 10 finish.

Over the weekend, UNC found themselves in the final four for a five-star defensive back who is ranked as one of the top overall players in the class. And now, just a few days later they are in the final four of another defensive player.

Four-star defensive end George Wilson released his top four teams on Monday, making an important update to his recruitment. The Virginia Beach native listed North Carolina, South Carolina, Penn State and Arizona State as his finalists:

Wilson is ranked as the No. 334 overall prospect and the No. 23 defensive end in the 2021 class per 247 Sports. At 6-foot-5 and214-pounds, Wilson would be another intriguing defensive prospect to add to UNC’s class and defense.

Following the reveal of his list, Wilson spoke to 247 Sports to talk about his final four teams and had this to say about the Tar Heels and their recruiting efforts:

"They made the list because of (assistant) coach Dre Bly,” Wilson said. “I have a good connection with him. He’s from the 757 and they have a good vibe with him. They have coach Mack Brown, and I trust him.“Coach Bly has a good vibe and he just keeps it real with us.”"

Hearing Wilson say Bly is a reason why they made the list is a very good thing. Similar to Tony Grimes, Bly has had an impact on Wilson’s recruitment and may just win it for them. The former NFL defensive back has really turned into one of the best recruiters in the country and has been an asset for the Tar Heels.

As for a favorite for Wilson? Well, there haven’t been any Crystal Ball predictions just yet and it appears as if his recruitment will continue on through the Summer so it will certainly be something to watch moving forward.
