UNC Basketball: Arizona offers new Tar Heels’ target
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program extended an offer to this 2021 shooting guard last week and now Arizona has followed up with an offer of their own
It was just a week ago that the North Carolina Tar Heels men’s basketball program added a new target to their recruiting board.
The offer to three-star in-state shooting guard D’Marco Dunn was the latest for UNC in the 2021 class. By offering Dunn, the Tar Heels may have ‘amped up’ the recruitment for the shooting guard just a bit.
Dunn had 17 offers after UNC came calling and now he can make it 18.
Per Jason Scheer of Wildcat Authority on 247 Sports, the Arizona Wildcats are now the latest team to make an offer to Dunn bumping up his total. The offer from Sean Miller and his program came on Wednesday afternoon. Scheer also writes that the offer is big for Dunn as he grew up in Arizona and watched the Wildcats throughout his childhood:
"Dunn talked to WildcatAuthority a little over a week ago and made it clear that he wanted an offer from the Wildcats.“Yeah, Arizona just called and it was really cool to hear from them because I grew up there watching the Cats,” Dunn said. “I don’t have an offer or anything like that but it would be really cool to get something like that, especially considering that I have a lot of friends out there. It’s great though because once I started getting some offers, more started coming in. Hopefully, I can continue to get even more attention as I keep going.”"
Dunn grew up in Arizona but moved to North Carolina as his mother took a job at Fort Bragg.
Since arriving in North Carolina, Dunn has really elevated his game at Westover High School and is starting to climb the rankings. As it stands now, Dunn is ranked No. 146 overall in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings but if he continues his solid play in his senior year, he will certainly climb those rankings.
Dunn holds offers from some big programs now including North Carolina, Arizona, Clemson, Houston, Louisville, Marquette, Maryland, Texas and Wichita State, amongst others.
While he hasn’t officially set a timetable for a decision, Dunn did say in the interview with Wildcat Authority that he could see himself making a decision during his senior season.
