UNC Baseball standout Aaron Sabato was mocked high in the latest 2020 MLB Mock Draft per The Athletic’s Keith Law on Thursday

The 2020 Major League Baseball season is still postponed and with the ongoing negotiations, it doesn’t appear like we are close to even starting the new season.

However, even without a season the league has decided to go on with the 2020 MLB Draft and will host it June 10th. The event will be broadcasted live on MLB Network and ESPN but will be shortened to just to five rounds allowing teams to sign an unlimited amount of undrafted players after that.

One North Carolina player that expects to hear his name early is DH Aaron Sabato who took the ACC by storm last season. Sabato put together an impressive first year in Chapel Hill in 2019, earning ACC Rookie of the Year honors, Collegiate Baseball Co-National Freshman of the Year, first-team All-America and Freshman All-America.

While Sabato and the Tar Heels barely played in 2020, it didn’t really hurt his draft stock heading into June. Sabato is being mocked as high as the first round in mock drafts, a spot where we should see his name called.

Keith Law of The Athletic was the latest to release his mock draft on Wednesday, and they have the talented Sabato going in the first round to Oakland at No. 26 overall. Here is what Law says about Sabato’s game:

"The draft-eligible sophomore Sabato has huge exit velocities, patience and power, and got off to a great start this year before the shutdown."

Sabato hit .343 with 18 home runs and 63 RBI in his freshman season for the Tar Heels and was off to a hot start in 2020. Before the season was suspended, he hit .292 with 7 home runs and 18 RBI in 19 total games.

It will certainly be interesting to hear where Sabato’s name gets called in this year’s draft as we continue to count down the days.
