We take a look at where UNC Basketball shooting guard Kerwin Walton ranks among all players at his position via Rivals

With North Carolina bringing in a six-man recruiting class for the 2020 cycle, many thought it would only be a five-man class for a few months.

Five-star prospect Ziaire Williams was trending downwards and eventually committed to Stanford despite multiple visits to UNC. But just a week later, the Tar Heels would indeed add their sixth player to the class earning a commitment from four-star shooting guard Kerwin Walton.

The Minnesota native took a few extra days to make his decision but in the end the wait was worth it for the Tar Heels. Walton pledged his commitment to UNC over Arizona and Minnesota, giving the Tar Heels another solid option on the wing.

The 6-foot-5, 195-pound wing is ranked as a four-star guard on Rivals but he did take a little bit of a tumble in their updated shooting guard rankings. The outlet released their final rankings for the 2020 circuit and Williams checked in at No. 23 among all shooting guards in the class.

Walton is an intriguing prospect that should give UNC some much-needed scoring help on the wing as he brings a scoring mindset to the team and is very good on the perimeter. This is a pretty good class at the shooting guard position led by Jalen Green who has opted to go to the G-League as well as B.J. Boston, Terrence Clarke, Jalen Springer, Bryce Thompson and D.J. Steward among others.

Sure, it’s a little frustrating seeing Walton ranked that low but he projects to be a very good four-year player for the Tar Heels program. And that very well could help them set up nicely for a future title run.
