Two UNC Basketball centers were ranked high on the final Rivals recruiting rankings for the center position that were released on Sunday

North Carolina’s first commit in the 2020 recruiting class came a few years back when center Day’Ron Sharpe pledged his commitment to the program on Father’s Day 2018. It was a year later when the Tar Heels received their second commitment in the class, landing another center in Walker Kessler.

With two big men committed to the program, UNC’s depth in the post was quickly turned into a bright spot as they laded these two talented players.

Now, as they get set to arrive on campus this Summer both are being recognized as two of the top players at their position in the class.

Rivals has been releasing their updated and final rankings for the 2020 recruiting class all last week and have officially ended it with the center position. On Sunday, the recruiting site listed the rankings for the center position and you didn’t have to scroll down too far to see both Sharpe and Kessler.

Sharpe was ranked as a five-star and the No. 2 overall center in the class behind only Evan Mobley who is committed to USC. The 6-foot-9, 225-pound Sharpe has really elevated his game since committing to North Carolina and has reached five-star status.

As for Kessler, he checks in as a five-star recruit as well and is ranked No. 3. He’s behind only Mobley, Sharpe, and Makur Maker (undecided) in the rankings. The 7-foot Kessler committed to North Carolina in 2019 after taking a visit to Chapel Hill and brings a scoring skill-set that really should help UNC’s offense.

Head coach Roy Williams will be tasked with finding the minutes for these two recruits as both Garrison Brooks and Armando Bacot are returning. Sharpe could move to more of a power forward role or the duo could give Brooks a break and be paired at power forward with Bacot at center. It certainly will be interesting to see what Williams comes up with.
