With coaches being able to contact recruits beginning in June, the UNC Basketball program is expected to show interest in a top 2022 forward

As Roy Williams and his staff turn the page to the 2021 recruiting class, it doesn’t mean they aren’t working on 2022 either.

North Carolina has just one known offer out in the 2022 recruiting cycle, with Jaden Bradley earning that lone offer so far. But he won’t be the only one to receive one and we could start seeing Williams and his staff making some moves soon.

One target on North Carolina’s board is five-star small forward Caleb Houstan.

The 6-foot-7 Houstan plays his high school ball at Montverde, the same school that 2020 commit Day’Ron Sharpe finished his high school career at. Houstan is ranked No. 8 overall by 247 Sports and is a rising player in many recruiting rankings. On Tuesday, Houstan released his first blog post as part of a collab with Sports Illustrated and talked about a few things in his introductory post.

Among them were the teams that are currently prioritizing him the most. Houstan listed five “big” schools that are reaching out to his coaches:

"My recruitment is cool for now; college coaches can’t hit me directly until June 15, but through my coaches I know that the schools that are reaching out right now are North Carolina, Virginia, Oregon, Michigan and Gonzaga; there are more, but those are the bigger ones."

Additionally, Houstan says he knows more offers are likely coming this Summer despite not playing in a few months due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also says he is excited for next month when coaches can start reaching out to him.

It’s still very early in Houstan’s recruitment right now so it’s tough to name any favorites in the recruitment. However, seeing UNC’s name as a school that is set to contact him is certainly good news.
