The UNC Basketball program hosted a visit with a five-star recruiting target in the 2021 class as he went in depth about his meetings with schools

The North Carolina Tar Heels are hoping to reel in some big recruits in the 2021 class.

Roy Williams and his staff landed a commitment from four-star small forward Dontrez Styles back in April and now they are hoping to add to it. The program has a total of eight offers out but that includes Styles who committed and Paolo Banchero who cut UNC from his list.

One recruit that has an offer is center Chet Holmgren. The 7-foot center is ranked No. 2 on 247 Sports and is a player that has a very intriguing skill-set to his game.

UNC has been pursuing the Minnesota native for a while now and adding him in this 2021 class would add even more depth to their front court. But where does UNC stand with the talented center?

Holmgren caught up with 247 Sports lead recruiting analyst Evan Daniels on Wednesday to discuss the latest in his recruitment. He touched on a virtual meeting he held with the Tar Heels during this recruiting dead period. Holmgren identified that the Tar Heels were one of the teams pursuing him the hardest:

"Minnesota, Gonzaga, Georgetown, Memphis, UNC, Ohio State, they have all been on me really hard lately. Michigan is picking up a lot right now, I’m about to do a second Zoom call with them later this week. There’s a couple of others in there too."

However, he didn’t offer much else on UNC.

Later on in the interview, Holmgren was asked if he’s had a good connection with a coach and built any bonds. He responded with Penny Hardaway of Memphis and Patrick Ewing of Georgetown to that answer. Other than the mention of a Zoom call with North Carolina, there was nothing else on the Tar Heels.

As for a timetable, Holmgren was planning on cutting his list at the end of the AAU season but now says it will likely happen in the Fall.
