UNC Football: Updated Tar Heels chances at winning Atlantic Coast Conference
By Zack Pearson
We take a look at the updated odds for the UNC Football program to win the Atlantic Coast Conference next season
While we don’t know what the future holds for the 2020 college football season just yet, there is hope that it can be played in full on time. A decision should be coming within the next month or so but oddsmakers in Las Vegas are going with the flow and the uncertainty hasn’t stopped them from releasing futures for all sports.
As we sit here in May, the Las Vegas Superbook has dropped their updated odds to win conferences for the college football season including the Atlantic Coast Conference.
On Monday, Stadium’s Brett McMurphy tweeted out the odds for the major conferences and where teams stand as of today. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they are in a good spot and might be a great value bet for gamblers looking to make some money this Fall.
The Clemson Tigers lead the way as the favorites to win the ACC (shocker!) sitting at 1/6 odds here in May. After that? Well, it’s two teams from the Coastal Division that should be battling it out all season long.
Both North Carolina and Miami sit at 12/1 odds to win the ACC next season:
That’s a great value if you’re looking to earn some money and possibly pick a sleeper team in North Carolina next Fall. After those teams it’s Florida State, Louisville, and Virginia Tech at 25/1. Then there is a big drop off with the remainder of the conference having odds over 60/1.
The Tar Heels and Hurricanes are the two teams that keep getting the love in the Coastal Division going into next year. Mack Brown did a wonderful job of turning things around in his first year. UNC finished 7-6 a year ago and won their first bowl game since 2013. But they were vastly improved, led by freshman quarterback Sam Howell and his weapons on offense.
Add that with their defense that is returning key starters plus bringing in some very good talent in the 2020 class and it should be an even better unit next season. UNC has the makings of contending for the Coastal with Miami with the ultimate goal of dethroning Clemson. But can they do it? Time will tell, hopefully.
