ACC Network to air ‘Michael Jordan Carolina Rewind’ in wake of MJ hysteria
ACC Network set to air 10 hours of Michael Jordan game footage from his time spent at the University of North Carolina
In the wake of widespread media coverage and critical acclaim over the past month, ESPN’s 10-part documentary about Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls has quickly become the most popular and most-watched documentary in the network’s history.
Fittingly dubbed “The Last Dance”, the docuseries takes a close look at the 1998 Bulls team that won the NBA Finals for a third consecutive season, but also dives into the 15-plus years leading up to it. It was during that time that Jordan graduated from Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina, and began his quick ascent to stardom.
The first stop on that journey was a three-year stint at the University of North Carolina, where Jordan helped lead legendary head coach Dean Smith to his first national title. Jordan has credited much of his success in life and in the game of basketball to Coach Smith, as well as assistant coaches Bill Guthridge and Roy Williams, among others. That affiliation and those relationships have been touched on a number of times throughout the series’ first eight episodes, and now the ACC Network is looking to get in on some of the action.
Beginning at 12:00 p.m. EST this Saturday, the station is set to air 10 hours of game footage from the 1980s that prominently features Jordan. The five games included in the “Michael Jordan Carolina Rewind” are as follows:
12:00 p.m. | North Carolina vs Wake Forest (Jan. 27, 1983)
2 p.m. | North Carolina at Clemson (Feb. 2, 1983)
4 p.m. | Virginia at North Carolina (Feb. 10, 1983)
6 p.m. | Virginia at North Carolina (Jan. 18, 1984)
8 p.m. | Duke at North Carolina (March 3, 1984)
In addition to the 10-hour marathon, ACC Network will air Packer and Durham Special: Jordan at Carolina. The one-hour show will take place in advance of the five-game marathon, and feature interviews with current UNC head coach Roy Williams, former Tar Heel legend Sam Perkins, former NBA stars Muggsy Bogues and Ralph Sampson and long-time sportscaster and Emmy Award winner Billy Packer.
Keeping It Heel will be covering the day’s events in real time, and chatting with you throughout the day on Twitter and Facebook. Check back with us for all of that and more on the UNC basketball program.
