The UNC Basketball program jumped past Duke in the latest team rankings for the 2020 recruiting class on 247 Sports

With the focus shifted to the 2021 recruiting class across college basketball, 247 Sports released their updated and final rankings for 2020 on Wednesday.

The update was released Wednesday morning and three of North Carolina’s six commits in 2020 moved up in the rankings. The other three fell a few spots but overall the Tar Heels made out well in these updated rankings.

Going into this week, UNC’s class was ranked No. 3 behind only Kentucky and Duke but now they have moved up.

The Tar Heels 2020 class is currently ranked No. 2 by 247 Sports in the Composite Rankings, jumping past Duke with the latest update. Both teams have six players committed but UNC beat out the Blue Devils by .4 points in the rankings. Kentucky maintained the top spot with their six-man recruiting class.

For the Tar Heels, they saw point guard Caleb Love jump from No. 21 into the Top 10 at No. 6 overall. Aside from Love, both R.J. Davis and Kerwin Walton also made jumps. Walton was the last player to join UNC’s class, committing a few weeks back and he moved up from No. 141 to No. 91 giving all six UNC recruits a spot in the Top 100.

Here is how they are ranked:

  • No. 6 Caleb Love (Prev. 21)
  • No. 20 Day’Ron Sharpe (Prev. 18)
  • No. 25 Walter Kessler (Prev. 13)
  • No. 53 R.J. Davis (Prev. 70)
  • No. 62 Donovan “Puff” Johnson (Prev. 41)
  • No. 91 Kerwin Walton (Prev. 141)

These rankings could change if ESPN and Rivals all update their rankings for the final time as the 247 Composite takes the rankings from all major recruiting sites. But still, it’s good to see UNC ahead of Duke here.
