Former UNC Basketball standout Jawad Williams told a great story about betting with Michael Jordan on half-court shots

When it comes to Michael Jordan, a lot of people have great stories to tell.

Through the first six episodes of ESPN’s “The Last Dance” documentary, we have heard plenty of good stories ranging from former players, teammates, coaches, and celebrities among others, talking about their experience with the GOAT.

But the latest to reveal a story that was not on the documentary was former North Carolina standout Jawad Williams.

With episode 6 focusing on Jordan’s addiction to competing and how it translated over to gambling, Williams decided to share a story of his own. While appearing on Maven’s “The Player and the Fan” podcast with Quierra Luck and David Noel, Williams told the story of betting with Jordan on half-court shots including a photo of the two together with Williams holding a $20 bill.

The story goes as follows via All Tar Heels:

"Yeah, so it was… We were talking about half-court shots, and we were betting about half-court shots. Mike said, “I’ve got $40 in my pocket.” I was like, “All right, cool.” We made a bet, I hit the shot, and as he’s walking out, he took the money out of his pocket, and threw it on the floor, and walked off. Then, Dave was like “Jawad.” They called me over there as he was walking out of the tunnel, like “Take a picture with Jordan.” I was like, “All right, cool.”He’s like, “Damn, you’re going to take my money, and you want to take a picture?” He’s joking, though. He’s like, “You’re going to take my money, and you want to take a picture? Come on, man.” I took a picture with him, but he was cool. That was like the second or third time I had met him, yeah. That was my cool end of day story, and I kept one of the $20s. The other one, I had to eat, so I kept one.”"

Not only did Williams win the bet, holding bragging rights over the greatest player to play the game of basketball, but he also had a picture taken with him holding one of those $20 bills. That’s awesome.

We don’t often get to hear stories like that with the banter between former UNC players, but we are glad Williams was able to share that one while “The Last Dance” was going on.

Episodes 7 and 8 of “The Last Dance” will air Sunday night beginning at 9 p.m. EDT. With four more episodes of the 10-part series, things should start getting interesting as we head down the stretch.
