The UNC Basketball program is keeping tabs on this five-star shooting guard in the 2021 recruiting class via video conference

Roy Williams and his staff at North Carolina are hoping to build on what is the No. 3 recruiting class for 2020 by putting together another good one in 2021.

UNC has landed just one commitment in the 2021 class so far, earning the verbal from four-star small forward Dontrez Styles two weeks ago. They still have about seven offers out with six targets in that 2021 class. Among those targets is five-star shooting guard Trevor Keels.

The Fairfax, Virginia native is ranked as the No. 18 player in the 2021 class and would fit a big need on the perimeter for the Tar Heels in the 2021 class. He has a total of 17 offers in his recruitment and has only visited in-state program Virginia so far.

With a dead period going on in recruiting, coaches have had to rely on communication through conference apps such as Zoom or Skype. Already we have told you about UNC meeting with a few other 2021 targets but they aren’t forgetting about Keels.

And neither are other programs involved.

Jake Weingarten of StockRiser’s tweeted out that Keels will have meetings with UCONN and Villanova today but also noted that the Tar Heels have kept in touch:

We don’t know exactly when that meeting with Keels was but it’s likely it came over the past two weeks or so.

With the focus shifting to the 2021 class, Williams and his staff are doing all that they can during this unique period to stay involved. Keels is one of UNC’s top targets in this class and landing him would be huge. However, it appears as if Virginia will be the team to beat in this recruitment down the stretch.

Next. UNC cut from this five-star prospect's list. dark
