UNC Basketball: Tar Heels add Charleston to future schedule
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program has added a future opponent to their 2020-21 schedule this week as part of a multi-year series
As we get ready to flip the calendar to May, the next few months will be very important for the future of college athletics this year. With the COVID-19 pandemic going on and no clear end in sight, Fall and Winter sports are in serious jeopardy.
We don’t know what the future holds but there is a chance that sports could be put on hold on college campuses for the upcoming school year. That would be worst-case scenario.
But for now, universities are planning on going with the normal schedule until things change.
For the North Carolina Tar Heels, we know the Atlantic Coast Conference opponents they will face but they are slowly filling in their non-conference schedule. The latest addition is a non-conference opponent very early in their schedule.
Per Jon Rothstein, the Tar Heels have agreed to a new series with Charleston that will begin this year on November 13th in Chapel Hill:
The rest of the series has yet to be released but we imagine the Tar Heels will be taking a trip to play Charleston sometime in the next two or three seasons. Charleston will also likely return to Chapel Hill again.
Charleston is the second opponent UNC has added to their 2020-21 schedule in the past two days. On Tuesday, it was revealed that UNC would take on Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic in December this year. The full schedule is expected to be released in the coming weeks.
