Former UNC Basketball point guard Jeremiah Francis is drawing a lot of interest so far in the transfer portal

The NCAA transfer portal has been extremely active this year with dozens of recruits entering their names, even during this quiet period.

In fact, the transfer portal has arguably provided the most news in college basketball this offseason with no NCAA Tournament. The North Carolina Tar Heels had two recruits enter their names into the transfer portal with Brandon Huffman and most recently Jeremiah Francis.

The departures have opened up a scholarship for the Tar Heels which has been filled by the commitment of Kerwin Walton.

While Huffman has found a new program, committing to Jacksonville State, Francis is currently searching for a new program. Francis announced last week he was decommitting and already he’s received a lot of interest from programs.

Per Jake Weingarten of StockRiser’s, Francis has heard from Northwestern, Ohio, Miami (OH), Cal-Berkeley, New Mexico, BYU and TCU so far:

Francis officially entered the transfer portal on Sunday night just a few days after his shocking decision. The point guard committed to North Carolina back in 2017 before he suffered two major injuries that required surgery. Roy Williams and his staff stuck by the decision to honor Francis’ scholarship and he played in his first season with the Tar Heels in 2019-20.

The guard averaged 3.3 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 16 total games played. He averaged 13.6 minutes in those games. With a loaded recruiting class plus the potential of Anthony Harris returning from a knee injury, Francis would have to compete for his playing time which may have factored into his decision.
