UNC Basketball: Four-star guard Kerwin Walton makes decision
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program adds another recruit to their 2020 recruiting class making six commitments and wrapping up that class
After a long wait on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, four-star shooting guard Kerwin Walton has made his college decision.
The Minnesota native set a decision date of April 25th for a commitment but never officially set a time for that announcement. With his recruitment kept air tight, it was a true guessing game as to where he would not only go but when he would announce.
Fans of all programs he was considering waited Saturday, then waited some more on Sunday hoping a decision was coming.
Then on Monday morning around 11 a.m. EDT, he made that decision as Walton will be attending North Carolina and joining their 2020 recruiting class. He picked the Tar Heels over Arizona, Minnesota, Creighton and Vanderbilt.
It was a long process waiting over the weekend and reports that Walton was struggling with his decision but in the end, UNC gets their target.
That will be a wrap for North Carolina’s 2020 class, which currently ranks No. 3 overall per 247 Sports. Walton was the last target with an offer and now Williams and his staff will fully shift their focus to the 2021 recruiting class where they have just one prospect committed.
The Tar Heels now have six players committed for the 2020 recruiting class as Walton joins five-star recruits Caleb Love, Walker Kessler and Day’Ron Sharpe as well as four-star recruits R.J. Davis and Donovan “Puff” Johnson.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound Walton is ranked as the No. 99 recruit per 247 Sports in the 2020 recruiting class but is considered one of the best long-range shooters in the entire class. UNC has a need for more help on the wing including shooting so the addition of Walton should help.
