Mack Brown and the UNC football program have positioned themselves well for another commitment from a 4-star prospect.

Mack Brown and the North Carolina football program continue to roll on the recruiting trail, where they’ve gotten commitments 14 players from the class of 2021, 11 of which are 4-star prospects. That class, which could end up being the best in the history of the UNC football program, is currently ranked second in the nation behind only Ohio State. Maybe equally as impressive is the fact that the Tar Heels have commitments from 13 of the state of North Carolina’s top 39 prospects.

All of that, and they’re not even done yet.

On Sunday afternoon, 4-star defensive end Jahvaree Ritzie named North Carolina to a list of five finalists that includes Georgia, Ohio State, South Carolina and Tennessee. Prior to trimming his list on Sunday, Ritzie was dealing with a list of better than 30 schools that included the likes of Auburn, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, among others.

Ritzie is a 6-foot-4 1/2, 275-pound junior out of Glenn High School in Kernersville, North Carolina. He’s an extremely athletic, physical defensive lineman that can get to the quarterback, and stop the run. He can line up on the edge, or play inside and use his quickness to get an advantage. He ran a 5.13 40-yard dash last year, and measured a 31.5-inch vertical jump. He’s a player with the size and athleticism to come in and make a difference from year one at the college level.

Ritzie is ranked 160th in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite for 2021. He’s No. 14 among players at his position, and eighth in the state of North Carolina. There are currently four Crystal Ball predictions for Ritzie, and all are in favor of the Tar Heels. Three of those votes were cast as recently as the past week.

Five former Tar Heels were picked up as undrafted free agents. dark. Next
