The UNC Basketball program stays put in Joe Lunardi’s updated Bracketology on ESPN which was released on Tuesday

Bracketology? This early? Yep, with no live sports for the foreseeable future, the college basketball world has turned to bracket predictions for next season.

During this quiet recruiting period imposed by the NCAA the North Carolin Tar Heels have been in the news landing a commitment from four-star recruit in the 2021 class Dontrez Styles as well as seeing point guard Cole Anthony declare for the 2020 NBA Draft. They have also been in the news with a few recruits after holding virtual meetings with them.

UNC is coming off a disappointing 2019-20 season but should be better next season. They return Garrison Brooks, Leaky Black, Armando Bacot, Jeremiah Francis, Anthony Harris and a top 3 recruiting class that features five recruits with the potential to add one more. It’s hard seeing UNC having a similar season to last and some analysts agree.

Joe Lunardi of ESPN has been releasing a new Bracketology every week, trying to kill some time during this tough time. His last version released on April 14th had the Tar Heels as a No. 6 seed in the Midwest region in Detroit taking on the winner of the play-in game between Saint Louis and Seton Hall as No. 11 seeds.

Lunardi does have UNC as a No. 6 seed but he moved them from the Midwest region to the South region and taking on No. 11 Arizona in Lexington. UNC is matched up with No. 3 Houston and No. 14 Wright State as well as No. 1 Baylor and No. 2 Michigan State in that bracket.

This is still a very early prediction and it’s going to change multiple times over the next 11 months but it’s still something to help pass the time.
