UNC Basketball: It’s a “guessing game” with this four-star recruit’s pending decision
By Zack Pearson
It appears to be a “guessing game” for UNC Basketball recruiting target Kerwin Walton as he makes his decision this Saturday
It won’t be long before the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program know their fate for their last remaining target in the 2020 recruiting class.
Four-star recruit Kerwin Walton is the last player the Tar Heels are pursuing for their already impressive 2020 class that is ranked No. 3 overall. Walton is set to make his decision on Saturday, ending his recruitment once and for all.
Going into Saturday’s announcement, Walton will pick between North Carolina, Arizona, Creighton, Vanderbilt and in-state Minnesota. Walton’s recruitment has been quiet of late outside of announcing a decision date and it appears to be that way going into Saturday.
There is no reported leader for the four-star recruit despite many believing it will be down to North Carolina and Arizona. Walton was one of the topics in Rivals’ recruiting analyst Corey Evans’ Wednesday leftovers article as he talked about the shooting guard’s decision.
Evans revealed that he doesn’t know where Walton is going but did have some good news regarding the timeline and UNC:
"It is a complete guessing game at this point. Kerwin Walton, a four-star wing, is set to commit Saturday. He has been mum on his recruitment up until this point and selecting a clear favorite heading into his decision remains difficult.…Maybe it was just random timing, but if not, it would align with Walton picking UNC and recent whispers surrounding his recruitment have said just that. However, with how big of a mystery he has been, I wouldn’t be surprised if he picked Arizona, or even Creighton or Minnesota. For now, his recruitment remains a guessing game leading up to his commitment on Saturday."
As you see above, no one really knows where Walton is going. It’s very possible he hasn’t 100 percent made a decision yet either.
I don’t know if that’s good news or bad news for the Tar Heels but Evans does have a point with the timeline favoring UNC. The Tar Heels have pursued the Minnesota native for months now and he would put the icing on the cake for what would be a very impressive six-man recruiting class.
Will Roy and his Tar Heels get it done on Saturday? Stay tuned.
