The UNC Basketball program completed a virtual visit with a five-star recruiting target in the 2021 class over the past week

Recruiting is a little different these days.

With a quiet period imposed by the NCAA since late March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is uncharted territory for college coaches. We have already seen the North Carolina football program land some recruits during this time and on Saturday, the basketball program landed their first commitment for 2021.

But as for visits, programs have had to turn to the virtual option.

With their first commitment for the 2021 class being Dontrez Styles, the Tar Heels will shift their focus to some big five-star targets. One of those being Patrick Baldwin Jr., a small forward that is ranked No. 3 in the nation per the 247 Sports recruiting rankings.

This past week has been a busy one for the top recruit as he’s held virtual visits with a few programs including North Carolina:

Baldwin Jr. holds 20 offers in his recruitment and is one of the more sought-after prospects in this class. The Wisconsin native has taken some visits as well but there hasn’t been much on his recruitment in terms of who leads the way.

The 247 Sports Crystal Ball seems to favor Duke at the moment as the Blue Devils hold all seven predictions. Baldwin Jr. took a trip to Durham last season but appears to be keeping his options open.

As for where the Tar Heels’ stand, well there is still interest as evident by the virtual meeting. But will this quiet period damper their hopes? Guess we will have to wait and see.
