UNC Basketball freshman Cole Anthony has announced his NBA decision on Friday afternoon, just a month after the season was cancelled.

The 2019-20 college basketball season didn’t go as planned for North Carolina and freshman star Cole Anthony. But the former Top 3 recruit wouldn’t trade it for anything.

While the sports world has been put on pause during this COVID-19 pandemic, the only news we have had for college basketball has been in recruiting, transfers and NBA decisions. Now the latest has come from Anthony and his decision on the future.

On Friday afternoon, Anthony announced he was declaring for the 2020 NBA Draft by posting this message on Twitter, thanking the program, fans and his coaches:

When committing to North Carolina back in April of 2019 as part of the Tar Heels 2019 recruiting class, many expected Anthony to be a one-and-done player. He was considered a lottery pick when he committed and despite some struggles with his play and an injury, his stock took a bit of a dip. However, Anthony is still projected to go Top 10 in many mock drafts this year.

Anthony averaged 18.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in his lone season in Chapel Hill. He played in a total of 22 games and averaged 34 minutes per game as UNC had a depth problem at point guard due to injuries.

We never really got to see what Anthony and this offense was fully capable of being with a healthy roster. We wish the best to Anthony and his family at the next level as he continues to pursue his dream of playing in the NBA.

Next. Will this be UNC's first commitment in 2021?. dark
