4-star UNC football target Payton Page announces three finalists

The North Carolina Tar Heels are one of college football’s hottest programs on the recruiting trail. Already with the nation’s No. 3-ranked recruiting class for 2020, Mack Brown and the Tar Heels still await commitments from a number of their top targets in the class.

One of those targets is Payton Page, a 4-star defensive tackle out of Dudley High School in Greensboro, North Carolina. Ranked 66th in the nation according to the 247Sports Composite, Page is the No. 6 recruit at his position, and third in the state of North Carolina. The fact that Page is an in-state prospect bodes well for Brown and the Tar Heels, given that UNC has already gotten commitments from 11 of the state’s top 40 prospects.

Page had nearly three-dozen scholarship offers when he named his list of five finalists in mid-January. Along with the Tar Heels, Page included Clemson, LSU, Oregon and Tennessee as the schools he’d be moving forward with. Fast forward a few months, and Page decided to eliminate another pair of potential suitors.

On Thursday night, he did just that, naming Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee as his top three teams in an Instagram post.

This will likely be the final change made to Page’s list before making a decision in the coming months. Dabo Sweeney and the Clemson Tigers are obviously a tough group to top on the recruiting trail, and 100 percent of Crystal Ball predictions on 247Sports currently reflect that. Brown and the UNC coaching staff have come a long way in the 18 months that he’s been back on the sideline, though, and the Tar Heels could end up being the team to beat.
