A big UNC Football recruiting target will make his commitment on Friday afternoon, deciding between North Carolina and Alabama

We might be in a quiet period for recruiting in college athletics but the North Carolina Tar Heels find themselves in a battle with an elite program for a recruit.

Four-star linebacker in the 2021 recruiting class, Raneiria Dillworth, is set to announce his college decision on Friday night. The Kernersville, North Carolina native will make that decision on Friday night and he’s down to just Alabama and North Carolina.

Woah. We never really thought we would see the Tar Heels get into a big recruiting battle with a heavyweight program such as the Crimson Tide but here we are.

For the Tar Heels, Dillworth is one of the top remaining targets left on their recruiting board as they currently hold the No. 3 overall class. Mack Brown and his staff have done a fantastic job landing in-state talent and getting the No. 13 player in the state would be another big step for the program.

It won’t be easy, however.

We don’t need to break down or tell you how good Alabama has been under Nick Saban but UNC getting a recruiting battle win over the Crimson Tide would be huge. But where do the Tar Heels stand going into this recruitment?

According to the 247 Sports Crystal Ball predictor, the Tar Heels hold all six predictions including one from recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfrong. That normally bodes well for teams when an expert has made their prediction into the Crystal Ball.

The Tar Heels have found some success here over the past few months with their 2021 class despite it being a quiet period. The hope is that they can add another recruit and improve on that Top 3 class.

Here are the details on Dillworth’s recruitment:

  • Date: Friday, April 17
  • Time: TBD
  • Top schools: UNC and Alabama
  • Offers: 29 offers
  • Prospect ranking: No. 223 overall, No. 17 OLB, No. 13 in North Carolina
  • Lead recruiters: Jay Bateman, Tommy Thigpen
  • Prediction: North Carolina
