The UNC Basketball program will learn their fate in the race for transfer Trey Wertz on Saturday as he has cut his list and is ready to make a decision.

The North Carolina Tar Heels will know their fate for a transfer target within the next 24 hours or so.

Santa Clara guard Trey Wertz has made another important update to his new recruitment, cutting his list down to four teams. Not only that, but Wertz will also make his decision on Saturday per Evan Daniels of 247 Sports.

After trimming his list down to 7 schools a few days back, Wertz is now down to Arizona, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Butler. Wertz cut Ohio State, Virginia and Oklahoma from his list of seven.

The Charlotte native announced his decision to transfer from Santa Clara in March and UNC was one of the schools to contact him right away. He hasn’t visited any of the schools expect UNC on his final list, taking a trip to North Carolina as a sophomore in high school.

Wertz isn’t eligible to play right away in 2020-21 and will have to sit out a year before hitting the court. UNC does have a need on the perimeter, especially in the 2021-22 season despite having two guards come in for their 2020 recruiting class.

The guard averaged 11.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 48.9 percent from the floor last season. That included hitting 50 three-pointers and shooting 40 percent from that three-point line.
