UNC Basketball forward Brandon Huffman will enter the transfer portal this week according to a report from Inside Carolina. This will free up a scholarship for the program.

There were rumors swirling that the North Carolina Tar Heels could have a potential transfer from the program after this season.

On Thursday, those rumors were true and we found out the player.

Inside Carolina is reporting that forward Brandon Huffman will enter his name into the transfer portal this week. The report had multiple sources and noted that Huffman has season of eligibility remaining plus a potential redshirt year.

Huffman committed to North Carolina as a three-star recruit in September of 2016 as part of the 2017 class. He played three years at North Carolina but found himself buried on the depth chart for those seasons.

With the incoming recruiting class that includes five-star post players Day’Ron Sharpe and Walker Kessler, as well as the return of Sterling Manley, Garrison Brooks and Armando Bacot, the move makes sense for the forward as playing time would be limited.

Huffman averaged just 1.3 points, 0.9 rebounds and shot 66.7 from the field in his junior year but was limited to just 14 games with an injury. That included missing all of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament for the Tar Heels. That’s where the potential additional redshirt can come into play.

This move also means there will be an open scholarship for North Carolina next season. UNC still has a few targets left on their recruiting board in five-star Ziaire Williams and four-star Kerwin Walton as they look to add to their stellar class.
