UNC Basketball: 4-star shooting guard trims list down to six teams
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program is still in the running for a four-star guard in Minnesota as he trimmed his list down to just six programs
While North Carolina has a five-man 2020 recruiting class that is ranked in the Top 3 going into this Spring, Roy Williams and his staff have still been busy monitoring potential additions to that class.
UNC still has scholarship offers out to five-star forward Ziaire Williams and four-star shooting guard Kerwin Walton in this class. While Williams appears to be headed to the West Coast, Walton’s recruitment is still open and on Monday night he made a small update to it.
Tipton Edits posted on Instagram that Walton’s recruitment has come down to just six teams as he’s trimmed his list a bit. Walton’s recruitment is down to Arizona, UNC, Georgetown, Minnesota, Vanderbilt and Creighton:

It’s been an unusual past few weeks with the recruiting period in college sports being shifted to a “quiet” period with programs not allowed to bring in recruits or visit them due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That has added an interesting wrench into recruit’s plans for visits and could impact their decision.
Walton’s recruitment has been silent as of late until updating his list to these six finalists. Does that mean a decision is near for the Minnesota native? It’s certainly possible but he didn’t give many hints in a recent interview with The Star Tribune. Walton did say there were a lot of transfers in the college cycle right now which is “crazy” in his words.
He also noted that he’s been in contact with coaches during this time but that likely wouldn’t sway his decision.
It’s just a wait and see situation now for the Tar Heels who as it stands, don’t have an available scholarship for 2020-21. Things could change however in the coming weeks but will Walton wait?
