ESPN has announced that it will move up ‘The Last Dance’ documentary featuring Michael Jordan to April of this year

While most of us are stuck inside, if you’re not you really should be, with no live sports for at least the next month, our options across sports channels are getting a little thin.

MLB has started to show old Opening Day games on the MLB Network and ESPN, while the NBA is showing classics from time to time. Even the NFL is showing classic games on the NFL Network and NBC Sports Network, hoping to fill the void with no live sports.

But Monday’s news might even be bigger than replays of live games.

ESPN announced over a year ago that the focus on their next mega-documentary in their 30-for-30 series will be on Michael Jordan and his final season with the Chicago Bulls. Titled “The Last Dance”, the 10-part documentary follows around the 1997-98 Bulls team that captured their sixth NBA title and second three-peat. It was also the final season in the Windy City for Jordan and head coach Phil Jackson, ending a dynasty.

The series was supposed to begin airing on June 2nd but as this quarantine and shelter in place began a few weeks ago, many took to Twitter to request ESPN to air it sooner. And now their efforts have worked.

ESPN announced on Tuesday night that they will air the new 10-part documentary a little earlier than usual, pushing it up to April. It confirmed a report from the New York Post on Monday night which broke the news.

The first two episodes will air on April 19th and then two more each Sunday for the next four weeks after that. ESPN will air all the previous episodes before airing a new episode, meaning that the finale will have all 10 in a row on May 17th. Check out the trailer for the documentary below:

You’ve probably seen clips of that ’98 team hundreds of times but ‘The Last Dance’ is supposed to have never before seen clips from a film crew that followed the team around all season. It will also have dozens of interviews from former players, coaches, and even some celebrities. Among the interviews will be North Carolina head coach Roy Williams.
