A North Carolina Tar Heels commit has earned another big honor for his outstanding play in his senior season of high school basketball

North Carolina 2020 commit Caleb Love saw his senior year at Christian Brothers College come to an abrupt end due to the COVID-19 pandemic, just days before his team was set to play in the semifinals of the state tournament.

While Love’s high school career is not how he wanted to end it, that doesn’t take away from the fact that it was a special year for the point guard.

Earlier in the week, Love was named the Show-Me Mr. Basketball for the state of Missouri, honoring him for his senior year. And now, he’s picked up another award. The five-star recruit was named the Gatorade Boy’s Player of the Year for the state of Missouri, announced on Thursday afternoon.

He’s now a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year as well.

The 6-foot-4,170-pound guard averaged 26.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game for Christian Brothers last season. He reached the 2,000-point mark for his career early in the state tournament and helped lead his team to that semifinal berth. He was also named to the All-State team on Thursday as well as he has racked up the honors for his senior season.

Love committed to North Carolina as a five-star recruit back in November and is currently ranked 18 overall and No. 2 at his position per 247 Sports. He’s the highest-ranked recruit coming in for UNC’s 2020 class that ranks No. 3 overall.
