Eric Ebron has found a new home in the NFL for the next two seasons after agreeing to a new deal in free agency on Friday afternoon

Former North Carolina Tar Heels standout Eric Ebron will have a new home in the NFL for the upcoming 2020 season and likely 2021.

With the new NFL league year opened, free agency buzz is still going on and Ebron was one of the latest players to sign on Friday. Per the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Ebron has agreed to a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers worth $12M.

Ebron will team up with his former teammate, Ryan Switzer, in Pittsburgh. The duo played one season together at North Carolina in 2013 before Ebron was selected in the first-round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Switzer was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys and then has been traded twice to Oakland and Pittsburgh.

The tight end will be 27-years-old this offseason and still has a lot of potential and skill to bring to an NFL offense. After a disappointing four years in Detroit, Ebron rejuvenated his career in Indianapolis having a career season in 2018 with Andrew Luck. He finished with 66 receptions for 750 yards and 13 touchdowns.

His production dipped in 2019 after Luck retired and an injury caused him to miss the final five games of the year. He will join an offense that includes Switzer, JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Washington, James Conner and Vance McDonald. The Steelers have a need at tight end alongside McDonald and the hope is that Ebron can fill that void.
