The UNC Football program has landed another commitment on Wednesday night, picking up a verbal from a four-star player in the 2021 recruiting class.

The recruiting dead period hasn’t really impacted the North Carolina Tar Heels’ football program the past few days.

Just over 24 hours since the Tar Heels landed a commitment from three-star athlete Tymir Brown on Tuesday, Mack Brown and his staff struck again. UNC landed a verbal commitment from four-star athlete DeAndre Boykins on Wednesday night.

Boykins officially pledged that verbal commitment on Wednesday, telling Inside Carolina’s Don Callahan he has picked the Tar Heels.

The Concord, North Carolina product is a four-star athlete that is ranked No. 177 overall, No. 8 at his position and the No. 9 player in the state of North Carolina per 247 Sports. He had a total of 26 offers in his recruitment including from Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Michigan, Mississippi State, NC State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin among others.

In the end, he picked Brown and the Tar Heels giving them now 11 commitments in the 2021 class. Of those 11 commitments, 10 of them are from the state of North Carolina as Brown and his staff have put a big emphasis on landing in-state talent.

North Carolina’s 2021 class now also ranks No. 4 in the country and No. 2 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Boykins plays multiple positions for Central Cabarrus including safety, running back, and quarterback while also returning kicks and punts. It’s unclear what position he will play at the college level.
