UNC Basketball: Tar Heels keeping in contact with 5-star target
By Zack Pearson
The UNC Basketball program has kept in contact with this five-star point guard in the 2021 recruiting class per a report
Recruiting in college athletics is in a “dead” period with the COVID-19 scare out there with visits being postponed until at least the end of April.
But that won’t slow down any news in recruitment. There will still be some important information from recruits as they can still talk about their top teams and provide updates throughout this next month.
For the North Carolina Tar Heels, they have put together an impressive 2020 recruiting class with five players currently signed. UNC could add another player if they can free up a scholarship but the focus is starting to shift on the 2021 class.
One of North Carolina’s top targets is five-star guard Kennedy Chandler out of Memphis, Tennessee. The No. 15 overall player in the class has drawn interest from some of the top programs in the country including North Carolina, Duke, Kentucky and Memphis among others.
On Tuesday, Chandler talked to Jake Weingarten of StockRisers to get a small update on his recruitment and where it stays during this dead period. Chandler revealed that he’s been in touch with two coaches from Blue Blood programs:
The Tar Heels have been in pursuit of Chandler for a few months now, officially offering him a scholarship back in November and has made him a priority. Since then, Duke has also been involved and offered Chandler back in December. He included both programs in his Top 10 list and we might be heading for a Blue Blood showdown to land him.
While Chandler has cut his list down to 10, his recruitment has been relatively silent until now and there’s really no timeline for a commitment just yet. There’s a long way to go in his recruitment and North Carolina might have to put the full court press on to land him.
