UNC Football: 3 prospects won’t visit UNC after NCAA suspends recruiting
Three highly ranked UNC football targets won’t visit Chapel Hill after NCAA suspends recruiting
Nary a program in college football is as red-hot on the recruiting trail as the North Carolina Tar Heels. Second-year head coach Mack Brown has the No. 4-ranked recruiting class in the nation according to the 247Sports Football Team Rankings.
Unfortunately, though, they aren’t likely to add to their outstanding 2021 class any time soon. But nobody else is, either, now that the NCAA has shut down recruiting amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic that much of the world is facing.
The Tar Heels, in particular, are going to miss out on three future recruiting visits from a pair of 5-star prospects and a 4-star prospect. Tony Grimes, TreVeyon Henderson and James Blackstrain all had scheduled recruiting visits to North Carolina that have now been postponed, at minimum. The UNC coaching staff is obviously hoping to reschedule said visits at a later time, but that is currently an unknown. So, too, is the time frame in which programs can begin recruiting players again, as the coronavirus outbreak doesn’t presently appear to be letting up in the United States.
Given the Tar Heels’ current trajectory, and the fact that every other program in the nation is being stymied by the inability to recruit during this troubling time of imminent health risk and social distancing, it’s unlikely that Brown and company’s recruiting efforts will be hurt too badly.
With any luck at all, the Tar Heels will be able to reschedule visits with Grimes, Henderson and Blackstrain when the NCAA lifts its current recruiting ban on the proposed date of April 15.
Stick with Keeping It Heel for all the latest on the Tar Heels’ 2021 recruiting class, and everything UNC football.
