UNC Basketball: Tar Heels’ commit drops 40 in playoff win
By Zack Pearson
A UNC Basketball recruit had a big playoff game on Wednesday night in Missouri, scoring 40 points in a win.
While the season is over for the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program and potentially all of college basketball, one commit is continuing his impressive season.
After a disappointing year for the Tar Heels, finishing below .500 overall and in the Atlantic Coast Conference, the future is bright thanks to the returning players and 2020 recruiting class that is coming in. Head coach Roy Williams and his coaching staff have put together an impressive class in 2020 and it’s currently ranked No. 3 overall in the nation.
With three five-star recruits and two four-star recruits, getting this program turned around could rely on this class. And one of the highlights is five-star guard Caleb Love.
The Missouri native has had a heck of a season for Christian Brothers College in Saint Louis and continued that on Wednesday night. Love dropped 40 points in the 74-62 win over Hazelwood Central in the Class 5 Sweet 16 round:

Love is ranked as the No. 18 overall recruit in the 247 Sports recruiting rankings and the No. 2 overall point guard in the country.
With Cole Anthony likely leaving UNC for the 2020 NBA Draft, the Tar Heels’ backcourt will look different next season. Anthony Harris won’t be back likely until December after tearing an ACL and Jeremiah Francis also battled a knee injury that limited his time. That means we could see Love and fellow freshman R.J. Davis become starters. UNC is very deep in the post with Garrison Brooks and Armando Bacot returning plus the additions of Day’Ron Sharpe and Walker Kessler.
It will be interesting to see how that plays out from now until the start of the 2020-21 season.
