The Tar Heels and Blue Devils have brought college hoops fans some of the greatest games in NCAA basketball history.

There are so many good memories to choose from when looking back at the Duke/North Carolina catalog that dates back better than 100 years. It’s the greatest rivalry in sports, according to some, and it’s given college basketball fans so many special moments.

Both programs boast one of the game’s top coaches ever, and both have been so successful over the past half-century. They’ve got more than 4,000 wins between them, and 11 national championships. Success like that between two programs is difficult to find, but the fact that the two schools are separated by just a handful of miles makes it all the more special.

The rivalry is often said to never disappoint; that no matter what season it is and despite the current success of either team, it still results in a great game. And that assertion almost always proves to be true, much like it did in the teams’ first matchup this season. The Blue Devils are where most people expected them to be, but the Tar Heels are struggling mightily. Regardless, their February game in Chapel Hill went down to the wire twice, and was eventually won on a last-second shot by Duke.

While that may have been one to forget for North Carolina fans, the following list should give them some comfort. Take a look at five of the best UNC wins over Duke during the Roy Williams era.
